At Somerville YMCA, we want you to love being fit and healthy, and we also want you to love the journey. Here, our dedicated staff comprised of certified and personal trainers, nutrition coaches, and more – all available to you to help you reach your fitness goals. We keep you motivated and with a purpose, so that you can keep yourself on track.

In addition to the many group exercise classes each week and beginner fitness program (free with your Y membership), we also offer many additional options from personal training (individual or group), to adaptive fitness.

If you’ve just begun your fitness journey, your new Y membership affords you access to our Getting to Know You Program, which includes:

  • Complimentary equipment orientation
  • Complimentary health assessment
  • Complimentary 30-minute personal training session
  • For kids ages 11-13: a wellness badge (after completing the complimentary orientation) that indicates being allowed to exercise independently

Our Programs & Classes

Group Exercise

Our group fitness classes include a little bit of everything. We have Zumba® (for beginners, active older adults, and advanced), strength & conditioning and sculpting classes, cardio kickboxing, yoga and Pilates for all fitness levels, cycling, and more.


Personal Training

Interested in taking one-on-one or small group personal training? We offer personal training sessions for adults, teens, and children with sessions ranging from 30 to 60 minutes. o keep yourself on track with your fitness goals, ask about our FitCommit program - an easy way to pay monthly for your personal training sessions.We also offer an introductory Tripack of 3 45-minute sessions for $99 to members new to personal training.

Small Group Training

In addition to our traditional small group personal training sessions, each program session Somerville YMCA offers various fitness classes for small groups at an additional cost. Some classes we offer include:

  • Adult and Youth Running
  • Learn to Lift 
  • All abilities strength training club

Active Older Adults

Exercise is important at any age, but it is particularly important for seniors to help boost energy levels. Exercising at the Y with others can help motivate you to adhere to a routine. We've designed our Senior Fitness program with those elements in mind. Our experienced and friendly staff can guide you in choosing activities and classes that will help your overall fitness and well-being.


Youth/Teen Fitness

We offer youth exercise classes that are specially designed to encourage kids and teens ages 7 to 17 to develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. In addition to our complimentary wellness orientation that comes with membership, we offer group exercise classes geared toward youth and teens, and various programming for an extra fee that may change each session - including personal training, strength training, and more.
