Join us at our Open House and learn more about the Y’s exciting Adventure Guides parent-child program. Get a preview of the fun the Guides have throughout the year as parents and children strengthen bonds through shared experiences.
The Somerset Hills YMCA Adventure Guides program runs concurrently with the school year with small groups, called circles, meeting each month for games, crafts, and refreshments.
Adventure Guides was originally conceived as Y Indian Guides in 1926 by Joe Friday, an Ojibwa Indian, and YMCA Director Harold S. Keltner. The Adventure Guides program has evolved but continues to be based on dignity, patience, endurance, spirituality, feeling for the earth, and concern for the family.

At the Y, we are dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child, as well as building strong families and communities. Greater Somerset County YMCA’s Adventure Guides Program strengthens and supports the bond between father and child. The program is designed for fathers to lead, influence, and teach their kids in grades K – 3 to explore the world around them.
REWARDS OF THE PROGRAM:
In this program, we weave the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with the Adventure Guides compass points that emphasize family, nature, community, and fun. The result is a host of activities that are enjoyable and meaningful.
