Confidence Begins by First Knowing We are Worthy

By Nancy Lee

When we focus less on where we’ve been and more on where we are going, we can find confidence in the moment by knowing we are worthy right now – right in this very moment.

It’s easy to get caught up in our past or our current circumstances and tell ourselves we don’t have the right education or enough education; we didn’t come from the right background or we don’t have enough money or don’t look the right way, etc., etc., etc. Whatever the story we tell ourselves as to why we think we can’t live the life we imagined is just a fictional fairy tale – a tale that can be rewritten at any given moment.

The concern is not what we don’t have in order to live the life we desire, the concern is our feeling of unworthiness that leaves us standing at the crossroads of great possibilities ahead. We all have in our power to do the things we dream of and live the life we desire, we just first need to know that we matter and are worthy of living the life we have imagined for ourselves.

Things we can begin doing right now that will instill more confidence:

  • Surround ourselves with positive people that uplift us and celebrate our strengths
  • Recognize those things we are good at doing and if we are unsure of what those things are, we can ask those people in our inner circle who will be glad to remind us.
  • Spend some time exercising like taking a nice walk outdoors and breathing in the exhilarating fresh air.
  • Practice self-compassion by saying no to things that don’t serve our well-being or not taking on tasks just to please others.
  • Most importantly, never ever be afraid of making mistakes.

Things we can begin to let go of right now in order to instill more confidence:

  • Stop comparing ourselves to others as we all have our own unique path to follow.
  • Eliminate self-deprecating words from our thoughts
  • Drop limiting words or “resistors” from our vocabulary such as try, maybe, but, and can’t to name a few.
  • Fear of speaking up for ourselves or letting others speak for us.

And whenever feeling a lack of confidence, just remember – YOU MATTER and ARE WORTHY beyond measure!
