Somerset Hills YMCA Amasses 2,500 Pounds of Food to Support Local Little Free Pantry

Basking Ridge, New Jersey, February 19th, 2024 – Kicking off the new year, Somerset Hills YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA held a canned soup collection ahead of this year’s big game. The collected canned goods and non-perishable items were distributed to various local food banks, including Somerville YMCA’s Little Free Pantry.

Food insecurity remains a pressing issue in every county in the United States. The New Jersey State Health Assessment, records 5.7% equivalent to 18,880 households of Somerset residents are experiencing food insecurity.

Eddie Norgard, Branch Associate Executive Director at Somerset Hills YMCA, shared, “In the spirit of our mission to foster community strength, we are immensely grateful to have gathered 2,500 pounds of food to address food insecurity among our neighbors in Somerset County.”

Greater Somerset County YMCA operates the only 24/7 food pantries available in Somerset County.
