The summer countdown is officially on, and it’s not just the kids who are eagerly anticipating the upcoming months of sun-soaked fun. At Greater Somerset County YMCA, the excitement is palpable as we gear up for a season filled with programs and activities that promise to stimulate both minds and bodies, ensuring children have a spectacular summer.

As a leading nonprofit committed to nurturing the potential of youth, the Y has been a leader in providing summer camp experiences for over 131 years. Committed to fostering an enriching and safe environment, Greater Somerset County YMCA is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), a testament to our compliance with up to 300 health, safety, and program quality standards set by the ACA.

The Y is set to offer an array of summer day camps designed to cater to the diverse interests of young minds at:

  • Camp Timber at Bridgewater YMCA
  • Camp STAR at Hillsborough YMCA
  • Camp Acorn at Somerset Hills YMCA
  • Camp Sunburst at Somerville YMCA

“Summer camp has this high energy and fun, enthusiastic vibe. Having been a part of Summer Camp for over seven years, witnessing children’s growth and development has been incredibly rewarding,” shares Jamie Norgard, Youth Development Director at Bridgewater and Somerville YMCAs. “From conquering their fear of water to leaving camp as proficient swimmers, it’s a joy to be a part of these transformative experiences. I can’t wait for the exciting trips we have planned and the lifelong friendships that will blossom this summer!”

Our Y‘s S.P.A.C.E. philosophy—swimming, play, art, community, and enrichment—is interwoven into every aspect of our camp program, creating a holistic and well-rounded experience for each child. From adventurous activities tailored to every age group to proactive measures addressing the summer slump through educational components, we ensure that campers embark on a journey of personal growth and unforgettable memories.

For teens aspiring to become future leaders, our Counselor in Training (CIT) program offers a unique opportunity. Focused on developing skills essential for camp counseling, participants cultivate values of responsibility, motivation, creativity, and dependability while working under the guidance of mentors.

“Summer Camp is a unique blend of excitement, camaraderie, and a sense of adventure. Camp attracts a diverse group of children each bringing their own personalities, backgrounds, and interests. Counselors play a crucial role in setting the tone for the camp. With their leadership and positive vibes, they craft a secure and encouraging space for campers,” says Gabi St. Fleur, Senior Director of Youth Development at Somerset Hills YMCA. “I am looking forward to a new experience at Camp Acorn, infusing it with my own flair after 12 years at another Y camp, and being part of Camp Dragonfly!”

Camp Dragonfly, a complimentary week-long camp for children who’ve experienced trauma, grief, or loss, is hosted at Somerset Hills YMCA Day Camp. This immersive experience, guided by licensed professionals, provides the joys of a traditional day camp.

The Y’s commitment to inclusivity is evident through community subsidies and direct financial assistance, enabling all children to access the enriching camp experiences they deserve.
