All our camp locations have swimming pools and offer both traditional and specialty camps to help customize your camper’s summer. All camps also offer extended hours to provide your family flexibility in your schedule.

Traditional Camp Options

Traditional camp options offer an array of activities to keep campers engaged and entertained including weekly theme days. Campers will develop social skills and build long lasting friendships as they learn to work together through daily activities that include arts and STEAM projects, team building activities, as well as traditional and non-traditional sports. Campers will also gain the courage and confidence as life-long swimmers through their participation in daily swim lessons and a daily recreational swim time.

Specialty Camp Options

These allow campers to explore their creativity and pursue their passions in science, art, sports, technology, performing arts and more! Whether your camper loves gymnastics, golf, cheerleading, acting, traveling or animals, we have a camp for them! Specialty camps include:

  • Animal & Nature
  • Culinary, Visual & Performing Arts

Special Needs Camp Options

Inclusion Program

Our inclusion programs offered at Somerset Hills YMCA Day Camp and Camp Sunburst at Somerville YMCA are for children with mild to moderate disabilities who are capable of thriving in a typically developing camper atmosphere and who will benefit from a fully integrated summer day camp experience. Our summer day camps often result in positive therapeutic outcomes through their recreational nature. Shadows assigned to children who need extra support will provide basic assistance with engaging in social and recreational activities within a group setting.

Carousel Kids

Carousel Kids is a week-long, camp-like program at Somerset Hills YMCA designed for children with more significant needs for support. It provides families with quality care for their child with special needs, and offers children the opportunity to learn and practice social and recreational skills, and have fun while making friends. Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, music, creative movement and outdoor games in a structured environment. We will utilize visual schedules, sensory tools and transitional prompts to help ensure your child’s success.

Our Counselors

Every one of our camps is staffed with counselors who are not only well trained and qualified for child supervision, but love being part of camp just as much as our campers. In fact, many of our campers later pursue our Counselor-in-Training camp and then become counselors and full time Y staff members.

Go Green for Swim Program

As a national leader in water safety and swim lessons, the Y developed the Go for Green Swim Program, which focuses on improving the swim abilities of children who participate in YMCA Summer Camp programs. Go for Green keeps children safe by helping them gain confidence in and around water. As part of the program, campers are swim tested on their first visit to the pool, and identified with one of three color wrist bands:

Red wrist band - non-swimmers who always wear a personal floatation device (life jacket) and may only swim in the shallow end of the pool

Yellow wrist band – between non-swimmer and swimmer who may swim in the shallow end of the pool and may or may not swim with a personal flotation device

Green wrist band – swimmer who is able to swim one lap above water and tread water for one minute, and may swim in any depth of water

Of the children who participated in the swim program throughout Greater Somerset County YMCA’s camps, 115 increased their proficiency by one level and 40 improved by two levels in our Go for Green Swim Program.
