Make-A-Will Month: Plan for the Future

Planning for the future is one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones. While many people think estate planning is only for the wealthy, everyone can benefit from having a will. In fact, nearly two-thirds of American adults do not have one.

Estate planning can include creating a will, reviewing beneficiary designations, naming trusted decision-makers, and documenting your wishes.

Because every situation is unique, we encourage you to consult with qualified legal and financial professionals when making estate planning decisions.

As part of Make-A-Will Month, the YMCA is pleased to offer a free online resource to help you create a legally valid will and learn more about estate planning.

The Y has been part of Mark’s family’s life for more than 30 years. His first connection came through his local Y’s Adventure Guides program, where he and his daughter, Dani, built lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Dani continued her Y journey through gymnastics, competitive cheerleading, camp, and eventually as a Y staff member. As a busy business owner balancing work and family, Mark turned to the Y to support his health and wellness. What began as a fitness routine grew into volunteer service and a lifelong commitment to the Y’s mission.

Over the years, he has served on numerous committees, chaired the Board, helped lead fundraising efforts, and built lifelong friendships alongside dedicated volunteers and staff. While the wellness center helped him improve his health, he says giving back changed him the most. “The volunteer work and giving back is where I truly received the greatest benefit from the Y,” he says. “The staff always thanked us for our service, but I always felt I received far more than I ever gave.”

Today, he invests in Greater Somerset County YMCA because he has seen firsthand how generosity changes lives. “When you help people in your community, you make the entire community stronger,” he says. “That’s why I give. The Y never says no, they find a way to help, and I want to be part of that to benefit generations to come.”
