SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerville YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA, collected more than 700 non-perishable food items and nearly $2,000 worth of donations through a March food drive benefiting Agape House.

Held in celebration of National Nutrition Month, the food drive invited community members to donate non-expired, unopened, non-perishable food items to support individuals and families in Somerset County experiencing food insecurity.

Agape House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support and resources for local individuals and families in need. The partnership reflects Greater Somerset County YMCA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the community and ensuring neighbors have access to essential resources.

“In the spirit of our mission to strengthen the community, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by our members, staff, and neighbors,” said Alison Francz, Branch Associate Executive Director at Somerville YMCA. “Together, we collected food and supplies that will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families facing food insecurity throughout Somerset County.”

Greater Somerset County YMCA is proud to support the community through its Little Free Pantry initiative, which operates at Bridgewater YMCA, Princeton YMCA, and Somerville YMCA. The Y currently operates the only 24/7 food pantries available in Somerset County, ensuring food is accessible whenever it is needed.

Community members can also support Somerville YMCA’s Little Free Pantry year-round by becoming a Little Free Pantry Community Champion. Community Champions organize food collections with neighbors, friends, families, schools, workplaces, or local organizations and donate the collected items to Somerville YMCA on a schedule that works for them.
