Star Fish Food Pantry and Plainfield YMCA Continue Food Distribution Efforts to Support Community Need

Plainfield, N.J., November 26, 2025 – Star Fish Food Pantry and Plainfield YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA partner in a bi-weekly food distribution designed to reach more families facing rising food access challenges.

The collaboration first took shape during the pandemic as a joint initiative of Plainfield YMCA, Rotary Club of the Plainfields, and Star Fish. As the pandemic eased and DuCret resumed full use of its facility, the project transitioned to a distribution-only model.

Now, responding to the growing need for reliable food access, Star Fish Food Pantry supported by Plainfield YMCA is continuing its outreach. Bi-weekly food and produce bags are distributed at the Plainfield Family Success Center (504 Madison Ave.) every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.

“Food insecurity in Plainfield continues to rise, and partnerships like this allow us to meet families where they are,” said Pat Bixel, Director of Star Fish Food Pantry. “Our neighbors deserve consistent, dependable access to nutritious food, and we are grateful to continue this work alongside the Plainfield YMCA.”

Leonardo Gonzalez, Associate Branch Executive Director at Plainfield YMCA, added “Plainfield YMCA has long believed that no family should go without food,” he said. “This partnership reflects the power of local organizations coming together to support one another, especially during times of increased need.”
