The volunteer opportunities listed below offer a broad overview of volunteer projects, but more specific opportunities are available on our Volunteer Portal to access the catalog. On our new volunteer platform, you will be able to manage your entire YMCA volunteer experience.

How to Sign up

Click below to take a look at our catalog of opportunities. Once you find and select an opportunity that fits, you will be prompted to create an account. If you’ve already registered on our new volunteer platform, you can also look at the catalog to see what’s new! We regularly update the opportunities as needs arise.

When searching for opportunities in the catalog, please make sure to select the branch you are interested in and put dates in the required “Opportunities On or After” and “Opportunities Before” fields. You will need to enter a date that is after today’s date to see the opportunities.


Board Volunteers

Greater Somerset County YMCA’s Association Board of Directors sets operating policies, provides strategic planning and direction, and helps secure the resources needed to promote positive change across our service area. With your leadership, we expand access to the opportunities, programs, and services everyone needs to thrive.

Branch Boards are the heart of local community leadership. These passionate volunteers champion their neighborhood Y branches, connecting us to the unique needs of each town or city we serve. From advising on programs to supporting fundraising and outreach, Branch Boards help bring the Y’s mission to life—right where our members live, work, and play.

Includes: Association Board of Directors, Branch Boards, Advisory Committees

Time commitment: Monthly or quarterly meetings


Special Events

Bring energy to signature events like Healthy Kids Day, Hillsborough HOP 5k, or cultural events. Help plan, promote, or lend a hand day-of!
Best for: Teens, families, corporate teams
Time commitment: Single-day or short-term

Program Support

Support youth and adult programs through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, and class assistance. Make a direct impact in someone’s day!

– Tutors & Homework Helpers (K–8 academic support)
– Childcare & Youth Program Aides
– Coaches & Wellness Assistants
– Active Older Adult Program Support
Best for: Students, retirees, caregivers, community members

Facilities & Maintenance Support

Help keep the Y running strong! Lend a hand with indoor/outdoor projects, light repairs, or beautification efforts.
Best for: DIYers, service groups, outdoor enthusiasts
Time commitment: Flexible, one-time or recurring

Administrative Support

Assist with front desk tasks, data entry, or office organization to help us operate smoothly behind the scenes.
Best for: Organized helpers, students, retirees
Time commitment: Weekly/ongoing

Philanthropy Volunteers

Champion our mission by raising awareness and supporting fundraising efforts for the Annual Campaign.
Best for: Advocates, storytellers, those passionate about ensuring all
Time commitment: Seasonal, campaign-based

Teen Volunteers

Your energy and passion can lead change! Teens are welcome in many of our volunteer roles—especially tutoring, events, and program support. Volunteering builds skills, confidence, and community.
Best for: High school students, students in need of service hours

Drives & Days of Service

Help organize or participate in donation drives or service projects that meet local needs—school supplies, winter gear, food, and more.
