Somerset Hills YMCA Hosts Veterans Day Appreciation Breakfast with Support from Affinity Federal Credit Union

Basking Ridge, N.J., November 12, 2024 – In a heartfelt tribute to local veterans, Somerset Hills YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA, hosted a Veterans Day Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, November 8, with support from Affinity Federal Credit Union (“Affinity”).

Nearly 30 veterans from Valley Brook Village and Community Hope, joined by family, friends, YMCA staff, and Affinity volunteers, gathered for the event, which provided a meaningful opportunity to express gratitude and foster community connections.

Affinity volunteers contributed to the morning’s warmth by assembling gift bags of needed household items and toiletries, presented to the veterans at the breakfast and delivered to additional residents at Valley Brook Village who were unable to attend.

“We are honored to have worked alongside Greater Somerset County YMCA for this special event, showing appreciation for veterans, their families, and community members for their unwavering dedication and service to our country,” said Kevin Brauer, CEO and President of Affinity.

The event also featured a special visit from Somerset Hills YMCA school-age childcare students, who offered handmade cards and words of thanks to the veterans. A service dog even joined in, bringing additional joy to the gathering.

Meg Laska, AVP of Mission Advancement, shared, “At the Y, we are truly grateful for our volunteers and community partners, like Affinity. Their support enhances Greater Somerset County YMCA’s capacity to offer important no-cost programs that make a meaningful difference in the life of everyone we serve, including our veteran heroes.”

Greater Somerset County YMCA continues to seek partnerships with businesses and organizations dedicated to building stronger communities.
