Plainfield YMCA Offers Achievers College & Career Prep Program

Plainfield, N.J. – September 17, 2024 – Plainfield YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA, is proud to offer the Achievers Program, designed to inspire and support youth in their journey toward academic and career success. Through this program, high school students are equipped with the tools, resources, and guidance to pursue their personal, academic, and career goals.

Program Highlights:
• Weekly one-hour sessions featuring group discussions on topics such as college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and the college experience.
• Internship opportunities with partnering colleges and businesses.
• Local college and business tours throughout the Fall, Winter, and Summer.
• Inspiring guest speakers sharing insights and experiences from various career fields.
• Career workshops focusing on resume building, interview techniques, financial literacy, time management, and organizational skills.
• Scholarships available to senior students who complete the program, funded through a special grant.

The Y’s Achievers Program engages students in grades 9-12, offering valuable opportunities to connect with professionals, explore different career paths, and build essential life skills. The curriculum covers critical areas such as college readiness, financial literacy, and career development.

This past spring students enjoyed campus visits to Fordham University and Seton Hall University, gaining a deeper understanding of college life. One participant described the experience: “It was one of the best college trips I’ve ever taken! I got a real sense of what student life is like, from transportation to class sizes and social norms,” said an Achievers student.
