On June 24, 2024 Congressman Tom Kean, Jr., NJ07 presented a ceremonial check to Greater Somerset County YMCA.

He secured funding through Community Project Funding that will be used to renovate Somerville YMCA to build classrooms to help meet the local need for universal Pre-K. This project is an investment in children to ensure they have access to quality preschool, which can change the trajectory of young children and influence lifetime achievement and wellbeing.

“When we look at the faces of the children in our programs at the Y, we see the future. Every child deserves the opportunity to have a bright future and we inspire children to reach their full potential,” said David M. Carcieri, Greater Somerset County YMCA President & CEO. “Quality preschool programs can change the educational trajectory of young children and influence lifetime achievement and well-being. We are immensely grateful to Congressman Kean for advocating for this funding that will allow us to renovate Somerville YMCA by establishing six preschool classrooms and collaborate with local school districts to educate an additional 90 children. This mixed delivery partnership will be critical to the success of universal access to preschool, and we are grateful for the Congressman’s belief in the Y’s mission and support of our future leaders.”
